Launch of the booklet "July 2nd - The Day the People Won!"
Published by Editora Olodum in co-edition with Editora BFK Books, the booklet "July 2nd - The Day the People Won!" is the first volume of the Olodum Griô II Collection and reaffirms Olodum's commitment to interethnic and anti-racist education, the valorization of Afro-Brazilian memory, and the democratization of historical knowledge.
With general and editorial coordination by Mara Felipe and historical review by Marcelo Gentil, the work is co-published by Editora BFK Books, under editor-in-chief Caroline Borba. The script is by V. B. Felipe, and the graphic design, layout, illustrations, and cover creation are by Adelson Sena.
This publication is a project of the Olodum Afro Carnival Association, in partnership with the Pro-Rectorate for Extension and Culture of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (PROEXC/UFRB), with financial support from the Secretariat for Continuing Education, Literacy for Young People and Adults, Diversity and Inclusion (SECADI/MEC).
In accessible and vibrant language, in comic book format, the booklet invites readers of all ages to rediscover the true history of Bahia's Independence, the popular struggle that consolidated Brazil's Independence on July 2, 1823.
The narrative highlights the leading role of Black, Indigenous, mixed-race (caboclos) men and women, privates, shellfish gatherers, street vendors, and working-class people who confronted the Portuguese troops and transformed freedom into a collective achievement.
Led by young graduates of the Olodum School, the work establishes a bridge between past and present to show that independence was not the work of isolated heroes, but the result of social mobilization and popular courage.
The visual project adopts a contemporary, expressive, and cinematic style, combining the dynamism of comics with the pedagogical function of an illustrated textbook.
It is accompanied by samba-reggae music, QR codes, didactic sequences, and pedagogical suggestions.

The program will feature a special presentation by the Olodum School, which will perform songs composed on the theme of Bahia's Independence, highlighting a new version of the July 2nd Anthem in a samba-reggae rhythm.
At the end of the event, free copies of the booklet will be distributed to the guests.
