Hofner Saphiere is a photographer with a
broad and creative repertoire: she loves the beauty of nature, the nuances of
culture and the liberty and randomness of abstract art. Born in the USA, she
lived over a decade in Japan and resides in Mazatlán since 2008, raising her
son, Danny, there together with her husband, Greg. She has been an
international member of the artists’ collective Baupres for the past eight
years and has six years as a curator and arts manager. She complements her
artistic vocation with a very active career as a community organizer and
photojournalist, and worked 40 years in intercultural organizational
development.
Her passion is documenting daily life,
community events and “human cultural treasures” through the lens of
ethnography, because that combines her lifelong interests. A talented and
experienced realistic photography, one critic says of her work: “To look
through Dianne’s eyes teaches us things that all too frequently go by
unperceived in our lives. Her images transmit the soul of the subject and we
feel as if we’re experiencing it together with her.” She has recently begun
creating conceptual works using photography as a medium.
The achievements of which she is proudest
include the exhibition at the entrance of Mexico’s National Tourism Fair,
attended by the president of the country; the best-attended individual visual
arts exhibition in the history of the port of Mazatlán; the cover and interior
photos of the cookbook of the icon of Sinaloan cooking, a World Heritage
cuisine: Doña Cuca Cárdenas; and a key photo in the campaign to rescue and
restore the first plane to drop parachuters on the beaches of Normandy, ending
the Second World War.
Hofner Saphiere has had individual and
collective exhibitions nationally and internationally: Austria, Colombia,
Germany, France, Greece, Israel, México, Morocco, the Netherlands, Spain and
the USA. She very much appreciates those who buy her prints and invite her to
photograph their events and cultural spaces, as that helps her follow her
passion.
