AFOXÉ FASHION PROJECT CONCLUDES ACTIVITIES WITH PARADE AND MANIFESTO FOR LIFE IN SALVADOR'S HISTORIC CENTER
In line with the Yellow September campaign for suicide prevention and the appreciation of life, the Afoxé Fashion: African Relics project will hold its Closing Parade on September 12th at 5 pm. The event combines the celebration of ancestral Afro-Brazilian aesthetics with an active manifesto in favor of mental health through the historic streets of Pelourinho, in Salvador.
Throughout the route, participants will display posters with messages of acceptance and emotional support, transforming the parade into a large network of dialogue and community empathy. Phrases such as "Listening attentively is an act of love. Don't judge, just accept" and "Asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness" will be part of the visual identity of the sections, reinforcing the importance of acceptance.
The event marks the culmination of an initiative dedicated to preserving and disseminating the intangible heritage of Bahian culture through fashion and the traditional rhythms of the afoxé groups. With a scheduled departure from Rua das Laranjeiras, the procession will head towards Largo do Pelourinho, passing through emblematic streets such as Largo do Terreiro de Jesus, Rua das Portas do Carmo, and Rua Alfredo de Brito.
The project organizers emphasize that Black cultural manifestations have historically functioned as collective structures of support and social strengthening, making the Historic Center the ideal setting for this invitation to the entire society. More than just watching a cultural parade, the presence of each person transforms into a collective embrace and a call for self-care, extending the gaze and acceptance both to oneself and to those who need support and care with their emotions.
The project has the financial support of the State of Bahia, through the Secretariat of Culture, and the Federal Government.
