The Mullet Festival brought life to Barra Grande with culture, gastronomy, and great attractions on the Maraú Peninsula
The charming village of Barra Grande, on the paradisiacal Maraú Peninsula, was the stage for one of the most traditional and anticipated celebrations in the region: the 15th Mullet Festival, held on May 8th and 9th, 2026, bringing together residents, tourists, fishermen, shellfish gatherers, and lovers of Bahian culture in a true encounter of flavors, music, and tradition.
The event highlighted the appreciation of artisanal fishing, shellfish gathering, and the rich local gastronomy, promoting typical dishes prepared by the community itself, such as the irresistible roasted mullet, the traditional mullet moqueca, and the famous mullet fritters, a delicacy that has already won over visitors from various parts of Brazil.
With a diverse and lively program, the festival featured musical performances by Raimundo Seresteiro and Fabíola Lins, as well as the highly anticipated Coronation of the Festival Queen, one of the most exciting moments of the event, celebrating the beauty, culture, and feminine strength of the local community.
Another highlight was the awarding of prizes for the best dishes from the community and participating restaurants, reinforcing the creativity and gastronomic talent of the region.
The jury included prominent figures such as researcher Adilândia Assis, journalist Luzia Moraes, chef Naiá Fonseca, and other special guests.
Produced by Édson Didi and Mara Eventos, the Mullet Festival consolidates itself as an important instrument for cultural appreciation, strengthening the creative economy, and encouraging sustainable tourism on the Costa do Dendê, attracting more and more visitors to the natural beauty and traditions of the Maraú Peninsula.
The success of the 15th edition reaffirms the event's importance in Bahia's tourist and cultural calendar, promoting integration, cultural identity, and development for the entire community.
